About Aaron Spurgeon
Aaron is an accomplished American art director, background designer, and visual development artist widely recognized for his striking environmental and world-building work across major animated films and television series. Spurgeon built his artistic foundation at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco before attending the prestigious
ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration.
Following his graduation, Spurgeon quickly established himself as a versatile force in the animation industry. He contributed to several massive theatrical and streaming releases, serving as a visual development artist for Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and providing artistic support for The Angry Birds Movie, Netflix's The Willoughbys, and Arlo the Alligator Boy.
Spurgeon has also left an undeniable mark on television animation. He contributed to the timeless legacy of Disney by handling location design for the Emmy Award-winning Mickey Mouse shorts and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. His expansive resume includes background and concept design work for Looney Tunes Cartoons, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Adventure Time: Side Quests. Outside of his studio work, Spurgeon is an active mentor to young artists, creates independent illustrations focusing on historic city locales, and resides in Pasadena, California.
