About Jeff Ranjo

Jeff is an Emmy Award-winning American story artist, character designer, and animator with a career spanning over three decades at the highest levels of feature animation. Growing up in San Diego's South Bay, Ranjo turned a childhood passion for comic books and illustration into a profession, ultimately spending six years passing on his expertise as a character design instructor at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts.
Ranjo is widely celebrated for his extensive 16-year tenure at Walt Disney Animation Studios. As a story artist and visual development expert, he helped shape the narrative blueprints and musical moments for iconic blockbusters including Hercules, Tarzan, The Emperor’s New Groove, Frozen, and Moana. Beyond Disney, his structural and visual storytelling talents guided Sony Pictures Animation hits like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Surf's Up, where he served as the Head of Story.
In recent years, Ranjo has brought his expertise to Netflix Animation. He achieved significant critical acclaim as the Co-Executive Producer and Head of Story for the epic limited series Maya and the Three, which earned him a Children's & Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing. Known in the industry as a versatile architect of animation, Ranjo continues to develop top-secret projects at Netflix while mentoring the next generation of global visual storytellers.
